Community Impact Initiatives

Prescription Drug Discount Cards

The cards may reduce prescription drug costs by an average of 35 percent and can be used as a cost saving method. They have no usage limits, age requirements or registration forms. Discount cards are accepted at most pharmacies.

National Night Out

United Way of Bedford County’s Child Safety Day is now part of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Department’s National Night Out event.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood friendships to make our neighborhoods safer.

National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. It also provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Stuff the School Bus

A drive to collect school supplies for needy children in Bedford County.  Over 75,000 items have been collected for Bedford County schools since 2007. The supplies are delivered to local schools and distributed to children who have the most need for this assistance.

Backpack Program

United Way of Bedford County works with the Bedford County School System to provide meals to children for the weekend.  Children qualify under the McKinney-Vento Act.

Water Safety Day

Held each year in memory of Matthew G. Woods, the Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Department and the Shelbyville Fire Department co-sponsor the day which includes two hours of water safety training and games.
