It was a near perfect beautiful October fall day as United Way of Bedford County celebrated Day of Caring and the Kickoff Luncheon for the 2018 campaign.
Sanford and Jostens, both under the Newell Brand umbrella responded with large numbers of volunteers. First Community Bank also had a team in place.
We cannot thank all of you enough. Next year, with so many volunteers available, we plan to expand the partners we will serve.
Some of the partners who received help during the morning hours were First Choice Pregnancy, Boys and Girls Clubs, Great Strides, Caregiver Relief, Senior Citizens Center, Child Development Center and the Bedford County Humane Association.
More than 160 people gathered at the large pavilion at H.V. Griffin Park for a chicken dinner buffet hosted and sponsored by Tyson Foods. Tina Winslow coordinated the effort, which is always delicious.
The Board of Directors for United Way of Bedford County wants to thank everyone who found the time to volunteer. Everyone is also pleased so many enjoyed the lunch.
Special thanks to Mike Alsup, director of the Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Department, and his staff for making the event possible at the park.
Also a big thank you is extended to the Times-Gazette, especially John Carney, who not only covered the event but graciously offered the blessing for the food.
It is campaign season for 2019 and many of you will be offered the chance to enroll in a payroll deduction plan. Also, it is now possible to donate on the web at www.unitedwaybedford.org.
This is an extremely important campaign. The need is great for so many in Bedford County. All money raised locally benefits local partners. Please help us to provide even more assistance.
